Having already designed award-winning zoom lenses, Tamron is turning much of its attention on primes.
Tamron has just announced the development of not one, not two, but four new lenses: the third model in its f/2.8 high-speed zoom series, as well as three close-focusing primes with a 1:2 magnification ratio.
70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD Zoom Lens
This new zoom lens brings Tamron’s total of F/2.8 zoom lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras to three. According to the press release, Tamron’s main objective for in creating this lens was to “[make] high-speed zoom lenses user-friendly.” It was crafted with full-frame mirrorless shooters in mind, so it’s lightweight and compact, while also offering an optical design with several specialized glass elements for superb imaging performance.
It features the same 67mm filter diameter as all other Tamron lenses in the series, a short 33.5″ MOD (Minimum Object Distance), and the newly developed VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism that provides quiet and quick autofocus, not to mention Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF compatibility.
